Love is in the air at Shelterbelt
COURTNEY BRUMMER, Staff Writer 01/27/2005

Love is definitely the appropriate theme for Shelterbelt Theater`s latest production of ``From Shelterbelt With Love 4,`` the theater`s annual Valentine production. The show consists of 10 one-act plays, split into two acts. Each play has a romance theme and either has the audience laughing from the great comedy or dabbing their eyes over the heartfelt emotion. With all the love in the theater, it was hard not to love this show. Easily, one of the best parts of the show was the play ``Details`` written by Nora Vetter of Omaha. Ironically, the skit is about a writer and his characters. Chockful of good one-liners and sarcasm, audience members laughed from start to finish. But credit where credit is due, performers Betty Ross, Jerry Evert and Don Nguyen make the play funny. While the writing is nothing but pure comedy, their timing and expression make it more enjoyable for the audience. You know they had fun doing it, so the audience had more fun watching it. ``The Blonde Grill`` by Tom Scanlon redefines the meaning of ``zero tolerance`` as well as reminds people, mostly men, what you see may not be what you get. ``Interrogation`` by local author Tim Kaldahl is truly a story about a family affair and why dating the daughter of a police officer comes with certain disadvantages. Now those of you familiar with ``From Shelterbelt With Love 3,`` will remember a play by Connie Fowler titled ``Open All Night.`` The play received the Theatre Arts Guild`s award for best one-act. In the sequel, ``Still Open All Night,`` Fowler gives the audience a touching play about moving on and coming home. It is a true testament to how one person`s life can affect so many others. If you are looking for Valentine`s plans, whether romantic or not, ``From Shelterbelt With Love`` will definitely warm your heart.
